Unemployed? Got A New Business Idea?

If you are over 18 and been claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) for over 6 months….. Then this scheme may be able to help you!

The New Enterprise Allowance Scheme is a measure to help people start up in business by means of business mentoring, and also the provision of a loan of up to £1,000. The applicant should be over 18 years of age, and have been claiming JSA benefit for in excess of 6 months.  For the first three months successful applicants will receive payments equal to typical JSA and for the next three months the amount will halve.

The applicant should have developed some form of business plan, the Jobcentreplus will determine eligibility of the applicant and refer to the mentor provider, who will then determine the viability of the business and also allocate the mentor. The allocated Mentor will have suitable business experience, and also the usual “soft skills” – the mentoring commitment is likely to be  6 hours for the initial 8 weeks followed by 1 hour per month for a further 26 weeks.

The mentoring will be provided on a voluntary basis so if you or any of your business colleagues are interested in ‘giving something back’ please contact Tina Tilley at Worthing and Adur Chamber on 01903 203484 for more details.

If you would like more information about applying for the New Business Enterprise allowance please contact Worthing Job Centre Plus.
